What is San Pedro?

In this article we explore the characteristics of San Pedro eand how a ceremony takes place.

San Pedro is a sacred cactus (Echinopsis Pachanoi or Trichocereus Pachanoi) that grows naturally in the Andes, southern Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia and belongs to the same family as the Peyote, inside it contains a variety of alkaloids including mescaline .

The first archaeological evidence dates back to the Chavín culture in northern Peru, where artifacts depicting the cactus engraved in stone have been found, in fact it is thought that the use of this plant dates back to more than 3000 years ago.

The San Pedro cactus is not a drug but it is a sacred medicine that teaches us to be our healers, our masters and connects us to the divinity that is in us, opens our hearts and gives us a vision of perfection in all things. . It expands the consciousness and opens the doors of the heart to a total connection with love and allows the vision to contemplate the divine sparks that stand out in every corner of creation because when you take San Pedro you begin to see everything with the eyes of the heart.

Its native language name is Wachuma and the curanderos who use it call themselves huachumeros. They claim that in the San Pedro cactus there is an entity, called “espíritu”, which induces the visions resulting from its ingestion.

How does a ceremony with San Pedro happen?

Ceremonies can be held both at night and during the day, but the best results occur during the day. During the day it is possible to look around and see the beauty of the world and notice how everything is connected: we are divine beings and we are part of creation. Nature determines the revelations and in the light of the day it can be seen more clearly, which is why we hold our ceremonies in the sun, because San Pedro is light. It is important to have this experience with an experienced master of ceremonies, because he must have the ability to protect the environment, guide and intervene in case of need.

Before the ceremony, you must follow a specific diet, no alcohol, red meat, fats, spices, and sexual abstinence.

A general rule for working with the sacred plant is: the purer the body and spirit, the more powerful the medicine and its teachings will be.

Our intention is also fundamental: when the master of ceremonies hands us the cup, before taking the medicine, it is good to concentrate on your intentions. This will help to provide greater clarity and to nourish the inner visions.

Intention is an invisible force, a powerful tool and ally that we can draw on and that helps shape our life and shape our reality.

The ceremony will last about 8 hours but the plant will continue to work even after the end of the ceremony.

Are there any contraindications?

In some cases, it is advisable to consult your doctor before taking the plant, for example if there are serious health problems, severe intestinal diseases, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes or mental illness. These conditions do not necessarily prevent you from taking the medicine as well because it may be just what you want to treat with San Pedro.

The integration of this sacred plant helps to let our inner light shine, inspiring others to do the same.

Sacred plants are a portal to the wisdom and healing of the higher dimensions and it is through this connection to the Great Spirit that we release our Souls.
